Jurassic Classic PDF Print E-mail

Similar to years past, this event is intended for sleds no faster than 25 MPH, and for drivers that still have their faculties, but not necessarily their original teeth, hips, or knees.

The starting line for the Jurassic Classic will be on the Chena River near the Graehl landing, off Front Street, for eight laps on an approx. one-mile race course. (Don’t worry, we’ll count them for you and waive you on or advise when you are done.) The idea of a shorter loop is for a much better view for your children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and for our CPR crew.

Remember, there will be no porta-potties stationed along the ½ mile course between the starting line and the turnaround.

Jurassic Classic sleds need to be staged on the river at Grahel landing by 11:00 a.m.

Radar Run PDF Print E-mail

Any air-cooled sled produced through 1975, and any liquid-cooled sled produced up to and including the model year of 1979 may compete. It is not a requirement to enter any other Tired Iron event with the same sled (or sleds) to enter the Radar Run.

NOTE: You may not enter the same sled in more than one class, but you may enter a different sled in another class, as long as the sled entered belongs in the class it is entered in, and an entry fee is paid for each entry.  Required safety rules apply; helmet, working brakes, clutch guard, operating tether switch, and snow flap.

There will be four (4) Radar Run classes for 2010:

  • 0 – 340 cc Air-cooled
  • 341 – 440 cc Air-cooled
  • 441 cc – up Air-cooled
  • All size Liquid-cooled

Total monies collected will be divided eight (8) ways, and paid as follows: 1/8th of purse to be paid to the fastest radar recorded sled speed “fastest speed” in each class (4 classes x 1/8th purse = ½ of the total purse). The remaining ½ purse will be divided as follows: 1/8th of purse to be paid to one person from each class (4 classes), to be determined by a chance drawing.  Each entrant’s name will be placed into a hat (including the “fastest speed” winner of that class), and one name drawn from the hat. (4 classes x 1/8th purse = ½ of the total purse). All entrants have an opportunity to be a winner, and share in the purse, even if you are not the fastest sled. The more sleds that participate, the bigger the total purse(s) will be. Good Luck!!

There are no Radar Run entry fee refunds, period. Each entrant must complete two (2) runs to be eligible for the “fastest speed” purse payout, but, even if an entrant scratches, without completing one or both runs, they will still be eligible for the “chance” hat draw for the class they had entered.

Classic PDF Print E-mail

The Tired Iron “Classic” is the premier event of the weekend.

Eligible are any production sleds capable of 50+ MPH, manufactured no later than 1975. This event showcases some of the most beautiful, totally restored snowmachines you will find anywhere in the country.

The race begins near the Cushman Street Bridge on the Chena River and consists of three laps (total approx 22 miles).

To ensure the very best trail conditions, The Classic is the first event of three exciting races on Sunday.

Departure times will be predetermined by a computer generated formula, including the sleds original performance estimates, the age of the sled, and the age of the driver.

Classic sleds must be staged at the predetermined starting line row by 10:30 a.m.

Wet Iron PDF Print E-mail

The Wet Iron is a new event at the Tired Iron to include all liquid cooled sleds through 1979 model years. This event follows the same 22-mile course as The Classic, beginning on the Chena River near the Cushman Street Bridge.

Departure times will be predetermined by a computer generated formula, including the sleds original performance estimates, the age of the sled, and the age of the driver.

Wet Iron sleds must be staged at the predetermined starting row by 12:30 p.m.

Fun Run PDF Print E-mail

The Tired Iron Fun Run is traditionally the largest event of the Tired Iron. It is designed for sleds in the 25 to 50/60 MPH range, and is the ultimate “just get out and have fun” event of the weekend. The Fun Run covers the same three lap, 22-mile course as The Classic and The Wet Iron, and is sure to have the biggest rooting section. Sleds can be ugly or beautiful and held together with technical expertise or duct tape.

The Fun Run is designed to be just that, fun. Whether you are getting passed by your cranky neighbor on his dialed-in old Evinrude Skeeter, or zipping by that smoke-belching old 1971 Arctic Cat Puma, you’re going to get your money's worth here. The hardest part of The Fun Run is keeping the tears of laughter off your goggles.

Departure times will be predetermined by a computer generated formula, including the sleds original performance estimates, the age of the sled, and the age of the driver.

Fun Run sleds must be staged at the predetermined starting row by 2 p.m.
